Workshop Activities

Here is a sampling of some of the activities we've done at past workshops:

Archetype parties
Here we draw an archetype or character from a set of cards and dance and make sound as if we were those archetypes or characters

Circle Introductions
Here's a chance for everyone to get to know one another. Along with our names we answer questions like:
  • Why are you here?
  • What character do you live in?
  • In one word, what is your quality of voice at this moment?
  • In one word, what is your quality of movement at this moment?
  • What is your greatest fear around movement and voice?
  • What are you hoping to find:
    • at this workshop?
    • in your voice?
    • in your movement?

The soundbody workshop is thrilling, inspiring, funny and scary - like a good movie, only you get to participate. It takes you out of your vocal and physical ruts and preconceptions, challenges your senses and opens your soul to possibilities of expression you may not have experienced since you were a little child.

— Angie Tysseland, composer & performer

Fear dances
exploring fear of movement

Breathing and Centering
Here we use various yoga techniques to get us grounded and relaxed.

Exploring breath and sound
Here we use the sound of the breath and it's over- and undertones in tandem with the movement of the body and how it affects our breath and its sound

Exploring body and sound
allowing your body to feel its own sound and to vocalize them

4 Resonances
this is a technique learned from Richard Armstrong using four main vocal resonances in the body to bring flexibility into the voice. We explore these resonances with vocalizations as well as movement.

Joy dances
dancing ecstasy and bliss

Going beyond "just hearing" a sound
Here we explore how hearing is not only an aural experience, but a physical and energetic one as well.

The Cave
exploring those sounds and movements from deep within the caves of our selves that we don't always allow out.

5 ways of being seen and heard
exploring in sound and movement:
  1. afraid to be looked at or heard
  2. wanting to be looked at or heard
  3. not caring about being looked at or heard
  4. self-absorbed
  5. in your centre

Games
childhood games to bring playfulness and youth back into our bodies and voices

Exploring flow
the negative and positive aspects of flow and things that might stop flow from happening.
